What is the significance of the term ‘Thathastu’?
It is a combination of the Sanskrit terms Thatha and Astu.
Tathastu is composed of the words Tatha and Astu, which means “as you wish / wish shall be fulfilled.”

It’s a Sanskrit word of two words Thatha and Astu.
Tathastu= Tatha + Astu = As You Wish / Wish will be fullfilled.
- It is possible / permissible.
- Astu will come to be.
Tathastu is a Sanskrit term that literally translates as “as you desire; your wish is complete.” Let things be as you wish, then. When a priest completes his blessings, the other priests join in and say thathasthu. It is placing a yes sign.
When someone prays from God and fasts in order to meet God or to have a wish realised, it is said in our holy writings such as the Ramayana, Mahabharat, Ram charitra Mansa, and so on that when God is pleased with that person, he blesses that person with his or her fulfilment.

Some believe that in ancient times Sages, Rishis, and Raksases engaged in intense meditation with a specific god in order for their specific requests to be granted by the god in question. When God appears to them and expresses his delight in their devotion, he provides them a gift by uttering “tathastu.”
Tathastu is an endorsement of someone’s desire that literally translates as SO BE IT. After achieving happiness for their devotees after decades of meditation, the phrase tathastu is stated by Divine beings or Saints (Rishis) in a variety of mythical references to them (tapasya). It was tathastu, not BOON (wardaan), that the deity responded to when the devotees requested it as a reward for their extended meditation time.
“May it come to pass” is the gist of the phrase. When you pray to God for something nice to happen, and God responds with the word “Tathastu,” it signifies that it will happen exactly the way you wished it to happen and asked for it to.
